If you are always getting to the interview stage of the application process, but never landing the jobs, you need to change tact. When employers invite you for a job interview, they already know that you could do the job – they just want to see how you are as a person. Think of this process as a test of your personality. The employers want to know whether they could work with you and how you would react to things like pressure. If you freak out in the job interview, they will know that you are not worth their time. Get into the right state of mind
Before you turn up to the interview, you need to get into the right state of mind. If you are rushing to get there, you will never give the right impression to the interviewers. Get up early the morning of the interview and prep your answers so that you are ready for anything. Do something that relaxes you. You might want to go for a jog or just sit and watch TV.
Turn up early for the interview
You should turn up at least ten minutes before the start time of the interview. That way, you know that you will have time to find the place, and you can show people that you are punctual. When you get to the reception desk, explain who you are and why you are there.
Be polite to everyone you meet
When you talk to the receptionist, you need to remember to be polite. If you think that their opinion doesn’t matter, you are wrong. The employers will likely check in with them to see how all the candidates acted. That will give them an idea of everybody’s personality.
Shake hands and smile
When you first meet your interviewer, remember your manners. Shake hands and smile at them. You should look into their eyes to show that you are confident and not afraid of this experience. There is a difference between being confident and being arrogant. Ensure that you show people you are confident.
Explain key points from your resume
Once you sit down, your interviewer will ask you to explain a little about yourself. You should take this moment to recite any key points from your resume. If there is something that is not on your resume, now is the time to talk about it. For example, if you have recently attended a Paulson ProMolder 1 seminar but that detail is not yet on your resume, tell them. Your interviewer needs to know everything about you and your skill set so that they can make a decision. Try not to leave anything out.
Answer the questions specifically
Next, you will find that the interviewer asks you a series of questions. Whenever they ask you something, try to relate this back to your experience. If they ask you about your managerial skills, relate the answer to a time when you had to take charge of an entire team. If you are specific in your answers, it will show that you understood the questions.
Have questions to ask at the end
When your interviewer has finished asking their questions, it is your turn to quiz them. You should have prepared some questions ahead of time to ask your interviewer. If you don’t have any ideas, you can ask things such as “What is a typical day in the office like?” or “Would there be a chance for career progression?” These simple questions show that you have a genuine interest in the role.
Next, all you have to do is wait. If you have not heard anything in a few days, you should make sure that you follow up with a polite email or phone call.
