Job Description

Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)

Duration: 13 Weeks

Location: Sitka, AK


Shift Details:

Rotating shifts each week between the following schedules:


Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Tuesday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM


Each shift also requires on-call time, including weekend call coverage.


Pay Details:


Weekly Gross: $1,985 for 40 hours

W2 Pay: $18/hr. (Taxable)

Weekly Per Diem: $1,265 (Non-taxable)


Requirements & Job Description

  • Flu Vaccine is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required.
  • Candidate must have sufficient experience to work independently.
  • Start date will be no earlier than 6 weeks after fingerprint cards are received by SEARHC for processing.


Required Certifications

Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology through one of the following:

  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or
  • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)


Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the proper decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of instruments and equipment for MEMC OR.
  • Support sterilization and reprocessing needs for other SEARHC departments as workload permits.
  • Thoroughly disassemble instruments and equipment to remove debris, surgical soil, and bioburden prior to sterilization or high-level disinfection.
  • Perform multi-step reprocessing procedures, including autoclaving.
  • Follow SEARHC policies, manufacturer instructions for use (IFU), and AAMI guidelines for instrument cleaning and sterilization.
  • Maintain sterilization records, including biological monitoring, validation results, and quality assurance checks.
  • Communicate effectively with providers and staff regarding instrument shortages and possible alternatives.
  • Verify equipment functionality and coordinate maintenance, repair, or replacement of defective equipment.
  • Maintain competency in sterilization reprocessing through return demonstrations and continuing education.
  • Assist with training and certification of team members on sterilization processes.
  • Support inventory and supply handling duties for Specialty Care and Primary Care at ELMC as needed

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing experience required
  • Healthcare environment experience preferred

Licensure & Certification

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • CBSPD or HSPA Sterile Processing certification required


Knowledge & Skills

  • Infection control practices preferred
  • Surgical instrumentation cleaning and care strongly preferred
  • Sterile techniques preferred
  • Inventory management preferred
